Garbage disposal repair in Alhambra

Before anyone reaches into a disposer, the power gets cut. After that, most problems turn out to be simple. Text a photo of the unit and its label to (310) 628-9399.

Three sounds, three causes

Each gets a different first step. For a wedge, a quarter-inch hex wrench in the socket under the unit turns the plate back and forth until it frees up. For silence, the small red button on the bottom resets the overload once the motor cools.

Puddles in the cabinet

Put a dry paper towel against each joint and run water. The towel that gets wet first tells the story: the ring under the sink, the dishwasher hose fitting, or the elbow heading to the trap.

Those joints get tightened or resealed. A unit that weeps through its own casing cannot be rebuilt, so we quote a matching replacement.

Disposers added to older kitchens

Half of Alhambra's homes date from about 1960 or earlier (Census Reporter), long before disposers were standard. Retrofits are sometimes plumbed into an outlet set too low, which leaves dirty water sitting in the grinding chamber.

We look at that height and at how the unit ties into the trap.

Alhambra questions, answered

Is it safe to put my hand in to clear a jam?

No. Use tongs or the wrench socket underneath, with power off.

Can a newer unit go on my old mounting ring?

Sometimes. If not, we fit the matching ring as part of the swap.
